Bought this camera last week. It’s truly superb – you can take really good pictures without hardly trying. The auto whitebalance actually works, as do the auto modes. ISO performance is brilliant, I even got usable photos on ISO 3200, they won’t win any awards but are certainly OK. Battery life is good, info lithium gives useful feedback – unlike other battery meters that say they are half full and then go dead a few mins later. The 18-70mm lens is really versatile, giving a good wide angle for landscape shots, but also packing enough zoom when I just need to get that much closer to something. Put the 55-200mm bad boy on the camera and you can really makes things big. To me, both lenses seem excellent, giving me great results under all use and the twin combo provides me with a great deal of versatility out of the box at a vastly discounted price (vs purchasing them separate).
This product is excellent but of course not perfect. If I could change one thing it would be to enhance the plastic grip. I have nothing against plastic, afterall everything is made from it, but the plastic grip on this camera creaks and clicks, especially when you’re supporting it one handed. It takes absolutely top-notch photos, I just feel the grip could be more solid. My old Fuji s8000 cost a quarter of this Sony but that Fuji was more solid feeling.
Overall, I am very happy with it, with just a small niggle about the build quality. Since mechanically it seems fine, and the issue is quite minor (i.e. not major creaking noises or lots of play in the grip) I award the camera 5 stars.
